About Blacktail Studio

I’m Cam, the owner of Blacktail Studio. I started woodworking in 2016 as a hobby. Eventually, I realized my hobby was expensive, so I tried selling a few things to help pay for it.

In 2018, I started making videos of the process, hoping they might help me find customers. That led to more building, more filming, and, in 2020, leaving my job as a helicopter pilot to do this woodworking thing full time. Best decision I ever made.

What I build—and what I share

I make custom furniture with native hardwoods, salvaged slabs, epoxy, and occasionally materials that probably deserve a little more thought before I commit to them. Big dining tables are a regular occurrence. So are unusual bases, ambitious ideas, and problems I did not see coming.

I share how I choose wood, build molds, pour resin, cut joinery, repair mistakes, and finish the final piece. The goal is to give you something useful for your own project, whether you’re working in a garage or a dedicated shop.

Find your next shop lesson

  • Epoxy Tables: molds, pours, resin calculations, and complete builds.
  • Live Edge Woodworking: choosing slabs, working with natural defects, and building around the wood.
  • Finishing: sanding, hardwax oils, polishing, and surface protection.
  • Joinery & Inlay: bow ties, patches, and furniture construction details.

I’m still learning with every build. Hopefully, sharing what goes right—and what goes very wrong—makes your next project a little better.
